Star Wars Episode 7 Cast Rumors: Michael Fassbender, Hugo Weaving, and Benedict Cumberbatch Reportedly Auditioned for Roles
Casting is well under way for Star Wars Episode VII as several actors have auditioned for roles in director J.J. Abrams' take on the franchise.
Back in October, "Lovely Bones" actress Saorise Ronan confessed practically every actor has been testing for a role in the sequel while auditioning for a role in the movie herself. She did not reveal any names of the actors who interviewed for a spot in the new Star Wars film, but some of the A-List stars who have reportedly met with J.J. Abrams, according to The Hollywood Reporter, are: Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Trek Into Darkness), Hugo Weaving (The Matrix), and Adam Driver (Girls).
Other names who also tried out for a role include: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael B. Jordan, Alex Pettyfer, Jack O'Connell, and Sullivan Stapleton.
Last fall, Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine), left Episode VII's script writer after an alleged disagreement of opinions between him and Abrams on the main focus of the film. As a result, J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (co-writer of Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark) will take over the screenwriting duties.
According to THR, Arndt desired the film should focus on Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo's children while J.J. Abrams wants the emphasis more on the classic trio before passing the proverbial torch (in the future films) to their kids. Rumor is Abrams is now searching for more veteran actors to cast for the newest Star Wars film instead of filling the roles with younger actors that were being strongly considered prior to Arndt's exit.
Star Wars Episode VII will make its long-awaited return to the big screen on December 18, 2015.
