Summer Kicks off Today with the Longest Day of the Year

Today, June 20 2012 is the official first day of the Summer season. It is also the longest day of the year for the Northern Hemisphere. While Northern Hemisphere celebrated coming of the Summer time, the Southern Hemisphere celebrates the start of the winter season and the shortest day of it.

For the past three years we were celebrating the beginning of Summer on June 21 however because year 2012 is a leap year adding one extra day to the month of February, this year's Summer starts one day earlier to maintain 365 days in a year.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."
Psalm 19:1
