Fans of "Supergirl" will be in for a treat when the series returns after the holidays.

According to reports, viewers will see a development in the story of Kara Danvers and Mon-El in "Supergirl" season 2, episode 9. This was confirmed by executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, who revealed about their plans to emphasize the romantic storyline of the two in the remaining episodes of the current season.

"The next episode is a big Kara/Mon-El story that we're really excited about. They're both obviously playing coy about what happened, neither admitting that they actually did kiss, so how and when that comes out is going to be fun and delicious," said executive producer Kreisberg.

Prior to his revelation, Kreisberg shared in a previous interview his thoughts about the noticeable on-screen chemistry between actor Chris Wood who portrays Mon-El, and actress Melissa Benoist who portrays Kara/ Supergirl.

Meanwhile, things are not going to be smooth sailing for the alien lovebirds. According to Kreisberg, a new alien race will come in between the two in the upcoming episode as they come after Mon-El.

Spoilers for the upcoming episode suggest that the aliens will come down to Earth and hunt down Mon-El, where the true story of the latter's departure will be revealed. There are speculations that Mon-El was not completely honest when he told everyone why he had to leave his own planet. As his past is brought to light, Alex and Maggie will have to get themselves ready for more difficulties ahead.

"Supergirl" season 2, episode 9 airs on January 16, 2017 on The CW.
