Tamera Mowry on Interracial Marriage to Adam Housely: 'Could Never Even Fathom' Racist Comments Received
Actress Tamera Mowry-Housely recently opened up about the criticism and racism thrown her way on the Internet for marrying a white man.
In a recent episode of "Where Are They Now" on the OWN Network, Housely touched on being biracial, and the troubling comments toward her marriage of husband Adam Housely.
"I've never experienced so much hate ever in my life. I get called, 'White man's [expletive],'the new one, 'Back in the day, you cost $300 but now you're giving it to 'em for free,'" she said to the Christian Post. "Stuff that, me as a person, could never even fathom. I can't even think of these words."
The actress has a white father and black mother and is no stranger to the issues of racism, but to receive the vicious attacks in today's day in age was truly a shock for her.
"I grew up seeing a family. I didn't grow up seeing, 'ooh a blank with a white person!' So it's very shocking to go through this," Mowry-Housely said. "This was the big one. They say, 'Oh Tia's a true black woman because she married a black man.' Oh? I'm lesser of a black person because I married white?"
"I love my husband so much. I love my family," she continued. "I love our dynamic. I'm proud to be in the relationship I am in because it's based on love. Pure love."
The couple have been together since May 2011, and had their first child together, Aden, on Nov. 12 2012.
Tamera and her twin sister Tia Mowry-Hardic recently decided to end their reality show TV series after three seasons, and pledged to live more of their life "behind the camera" instead of in front of it.
The two also previously worked on the 90s sitcom, "Sister, Sister" and a couple of Disney movies with their younger brother Tahj, as well.
