Freeform officially announced the winter premiere date for "The Fosters." The series will be launched alongside the fifth and final season of "Switched at Birth" at the tail end of January, 2017.

The network also gave the greenlight to its new comedy series, "Brown Girls."

Freeform opened this week with the announcement of the premiere date of two of its most popular drama series, "The Fosters" and "Switched at Birth."  "The Fosters" season 4 will premiere on Jan. 31, 2017, at 8:00 p.m., while "Switched at Birth" season 5 will premiere on the same date at 9:00 p.m.

The fourth season of "The Fosters" has been on hiatus since its midseason finale which left a major cliffhanger on Aug. 29. Season 4B picks up where season 4A left off, where several members of the Foster family were left in peril.

Starring Teri Polo, Sherri Saum, Hayden Beverly, Noah Centineo, David Lambert, Maia Mitchell, Danny Nucci and Cierra Ramirez, "The Fosters" is an American family drama series created by Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige. It follows the lives of the Foster family led by a lesbian couple. Stef is a cop while Lena is a school administrator, and they both raise a multi-ethnic blended family consisting of one biological and four adopted children.

The series first aired on June 3, 2013 and has received generally favorable reviews since its debut, particularly because of its effective portrayal of LGBT themes.

In other news, Freeform also greenlit a new comedy series titled "Brown Girls," which centers on two Indian women with clashing views on modern life and love.
