"The Mindy Project" season 5, episode 6 opens with Dr. Reed letting everyone know that they're working half-day on Friday to grace Danny's wedding. Everyone pities Mindy since she is the only one who's not going. On the other hand, Morgan is disappointed that the bride and groom chose Leo to be the ring bearer and not him.

As Mindy and Ben teach Leo how to carry the ring, Ben tells Mindy he is staying with her over the weekend. However, Mindy tells him that she wants to spend the weekend alone.

Spending the weekend by herself, Mindy starts going crazy as she hears Danny's voice taunting her from all the photos of him left in the house. She freaks out, hops in the car and goes on a road trip to take the pain away. She ends up at her parents' home, where she is confident her mom is there to take good care of her. Unfortunately, her mom has other stuff going on.

Mindy and Rishi try to investigate what their mother has been up to by searching through her email. That's when they find out that Sonu is meeting a director for dinner at the most romantic restaurant in Concord.

While Mindy and Rishi are getting ready to go to the restaurant, Morgan calls Mindy to tell her that Danny went drunk and might call off the wedding for her. Now, Mindy is torn between her desire to know if Danny still loves her and if her mom is cheating on her dad.

At the restaurant, Mindy and Rishi find out that their mom is flirting with a creepy old man. They confront their mom's director, Conrad, until he finally storms off.

Pissed, Sony curses her children. Mindy knows how hurt her mom is, so she decides to go to Conrad's basement apartment to try to fix things for Sonu instead of going to Danny's wedding. Conrad tells Mindy that he is willing to forgive, only if Mindy shows him a good time on his futon.

Mindy leaves Conrad and returns home to tell her mom that she deserves better. However, when Danny's photos start talking again, she gets back into the car and decides to go to the wedding. As luck would have it, Mindy gets a call from Ben, who reminds her of how unsupportive Danny is of her career, and how she deserves someone better. She then turns her car around and finally decides to go to her mother Sonu, who badly needs her.

Back in their home, Sonu makes Mindy and Rishi mac and cheese with cut-up hotdogs. She explains to Mindy that the voices from the photos aren't Danny's but hers. She tells her that for a long time, she let Danny take over her life that is why now that he is gone, she hungers for someone to tell her that she is not good enough. Mindy is amazed by how great her mom's insight is, and realizes how she often ignored her before. She then advises Sonu to start writing a one woman show.

The episode ends with Mindy and Rishi lovingly staring at their mother.
