NBC has announced it will be unveiling the sequel to Mark Burnett's "The Bible" miniseries, A.D.: Beyond the Bible."

The new NBC series is expected to air in the spring of 2015, and will take place during the start of the early church era of the Bible, Acts.

According to NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke's statement, the early scenes will show what was first seen in the epic History Channel miniseries as the direct result of Jesus Christ's crucifixion.

"Everyone's lives were completely altered in an instant and the immediate aftermath of Christ's death had an impact on His disciples, His mother Mary, and key political and religious leaders of the time. In the first episode alone you see the last moments of the Crucifixion, Judas taking his own life after betraying Christ, Peter denying Jesus three times, and then the miracle of the Resurrection," said Salke.

Famed British film writer, Simon Block, has agreed to write the script. No director or actor has been named in the upcoming series, and there is no word if Bible miniseries co-creator Roma Downey is going to reprise her role as Jesus' mother Mary.

This will not be the only Christian-themed media released in the near future by Burnett and Downey; they are also planning to release a new film based on Jesus Christ called, "Son of God."

The film is expected to arrive in February 2015.
