'The Strain' Season 4 Spoilers: EP Confirms Fourth Season Is The Last Season

"The Strain" is set to return for a fourth season next year, and the latest update from executive producer Carlton Cuse confirmed that it is going to be the series' last.

Showrunner Carlton Cuse made the big revelation in her interview with TV Insider, where she confirmed that season 4 will mark the end of the series.

According to Cuse, the dropping of the atomic bomb in the season 3 finale will set the plotline for season 4. While the showrunner kept mum as to the extent of the damage caused by this bomb, she teased that the event created a "profoundly different world," making season 4 a lot more exciting.

Cuse also revealed that Eph's estranged wife, Kelly, could still appear in the next installment. It can be recalled that in the season 3 finale, Eph killed the turned human, eventually driving Zack to push the button that set off the bomb. However, Cuse pointed out that Kelly's appearance could either be through flashbacks or "some other form of storytelling."

The showrunner also revealed that Goodweather's grief for losing his mother might force him to go into the dark side, turning him into a potential vessel for the Master.

Meanwhile, reports claim that the producers of the show want to stay true to the novel series by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan so they have decided to end the series in season 4. In the source material, the ending is set in post-apocalyptic nuclear winter, which reportedly will be the exact condition in season 4.

"The Strain" season 4 returns in 2017 on FX.
