Damon will be possessed by an evil entity in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

Although the series started off as a love triangle, that is long gone. In the upcoming season, Stefan will be worried about his brother's future with Elena. According to executive producer Julie Plec, Stefan will be worried about Elena's reaction when it comes to Damon's most recent dark turn.

"Stefan somehow inherently understands that what's happened to his brother is not Damon's fault," said Plec in her interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"Whatever is going on with Damon, he's under some sort of control or is in some situation that he can't entirely get out of. He's very focused on trying to rescue his brother from this mess, understanding that the fallout of whatever it is that Damon has to do could impact his ability to be reunited with Elena one day," she added.

It looks like it is not only the innocent lives that Stefan will be concerned about. He knows for a fact that Damon needs to live for something, and that it is only Elena who can keep him on the straight and narrow path even when he is not conscious. However, Damon's latest possession by the evil will be far more difficult to fix than the previous instances when he would turn off his emotions.

In the season 7 finale, Damon was taken over by an unknown element which he found in the Armory's vault.
