Tim Timmons Releases New Single "I Belong (Feat. Amy Grant)," Prepares To Join MercyMe's "Imagine Nation Tour" This Fall
Grammy and Dove Award-nominated singer-songwriter Tim Timmons on Friday independently released his latest single, "I Belong," featuring multi-platinum selling and six-time Grammy Award-winning singer Amy Grant.
Timmons wrote "I Belong" during a church retreat together with former All Sons & Daughters' duo David Leonard and Leslie Jordan, as well as Jacob Stillman, Ethan Hulse, Sarah MacIntosh, Andrew Ripp, and Stephanie Skipper. Besides lending her voice to the song, Timmons says Grant also had a big part in the songwriting.
"Her music literally shaped me as a musician and as an honest songwriter, he says. "She is the exact person you'd hope she'd be - kind, generous, thoughtful, and truly gifted."
"Amy has become a good friend, so when I thought about who should sing with me on the song, I just thought why not ask her," Timmons recalls. "We ended up writing the bridge together. I'm so honored by her and her friendship."
Inviting listeners to discover the abundant life beyond religion, "I Belong" is a portrait of Timmons's own awakening, where he proclaims: "What could happen if we grasped how much we're all loved and accepted by Jesus no matter what, and then lived like it was actually true? What if we were found singing from the mountaintops 'Hallelujah, I belong' even on our worst day? That would be a game changer."
"I Belong" is the first new single for Timmons's next season and was born in a difficult time for his community, which he says experienced shame, loneliness, doubt, division, and fear as the overarching narratives.
"The eight of us got together to write a song that would help our church community sing bold prayers," Timmons recounts. "This prayer has been life-giving for all of us. And the more that we live like this is true, we are finding freedom, rest and joy where there once was none."
He adds, "This is the kind of prayer that I want my kids and their kids to remember and shout out: Hallelujah, I belong here. In Your presence safe and secure. I see hope coming on the horizon, there's no need for hiding, because I belong."
Timmons will later this fall bring his music on the road for MercyMe's "Imagine Nation Tour," which also features Tenth Avenue North. The tour kicks off on Oct. 4 and concludes a month later on Nov. 4, with the full tour schedule available below.
