True Detective Season 2 Release Date: Work on New Season Has Already Started, Delayed Due to Success of Season 1

Hit HBO show "True Detective" has grown in notoriety since it first aired, and the debut season of the show was a massive success, averaging 11 million viewers per episode. The second season has not been officially confirmed by HBO as of yet, but series creator Nic Pizzolatto is already working on a script, according to new reports.

Pizzolatto revealed some new information regarding Season 2 in a recent interview with HitFix, "Okay. This is really early, but I'll tell you (it's about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system," said Pizzolatto.

When asked if any of the feedback regarding the ending of Season 1 would affect what he planed to do next in Season 2, he replied, "It's informed exactly one thing. It's that I realize I need to keep being strange. Don't play the next one straight."

In another interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pizzolatto revealed a news update regarding Season 2.

"I was well on my way in the writing but there's been a lot noise and work around the end of the first season that got in the way."

The "True Detective" Season 1 finale attracted so much attention that the HBO streaming site crashed as fans logged on to discover the real identity of "The Yellow King."

The episode aired on Sunday, March 9, at 9 p.m. Nevertheless, at the end of the episode, HBO tweeted on its HBO GO account the following message, "Due to overwhelmingly popular demand for #TrueDetective, we've been made aware of an issue affecting some users. Please try again soon."

The 8th and final episode of "True Detective" was titled "Form and Void."

The crime drama series starred Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey as Rustin Cohle and Woody Harrelson as Marty Hart.
