UFC 2015 News: Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson Comments on Latest Win After Receiving Boos

After Demetrious Johnson defended his UFC flyweight title for the seventh consecutive time at UFC 191, there was a splattering of boos from the MGM Grand Garden Arena crowd. It wasn't because Johnson didn't deserve the unanimous decision win. I was more likely because he made it look too easy - fighting the only man in the division who came close to tarnishing his undefeated flyweight stint.

"There's a bunch of drunk dummies out there," UFC president Dana White said of those who booed what Joe Rogan called the best fighter in the world. "I don't know what they expect, but he looked unbelievable tonight."

Perhaps fans wanted another brawl like the one between John Lineker and Francisco Rivera gave them earlier in the night, a fight that saw both men unleashing 30 to 40 haymakers without much regard for personal safety. Johnson has no interest in fighting that way.

"I saw some opportunities to let my hands go, but people were like, "Oh that John Lineker-Francisco Rivera fight!" Johnson said after dominating John Dodson in five rounds. "I'm happy that I'm not involved in a fight like that. Even though they got $50K (bonus for Fight of the Night), I'm glad I'm not risking me brain cells and trauma to my head for fights like that."

During their first matchup back in 2013, Dodson connected with his heavy hands several times, knocking down Johnson time and again. On Saturday, he would be in no such danger, getting scores of 49-46 (twice) and 50-45 from the judges.

"I look fine. I can go home and my kids will see me and they'll say, "Daddy, what happened?' And I'll say, "Nothing son. I got paid, and that's it," Johnson said.

"My gift is being able to strike, change elevation, pick up, throw the knees, move, hit people when hey can't hit me," one of the best pound-for-pound fighters said. "That's my gift. Let's use it. That's what I've been doing and I'm totally fine."
