‘Utopia’ TV Series News: FOX Reality Series Struggles with Ratings, Show's New Voting System [VIDEOS]

New reports have been saying that Fox Network is struggling with their experimental reality series, 'Utopia', and its unexpectedly low ratings.

With this, the network has shifted to a new format introducing a voting out system of each cast to eventually pick new members that will join the show.

'Utopia' started out with a unique platform, that strayed away from the usual reality TV format. The show has no element of competition, no rewards, no form of ceremony, and no grand prize.

The show revolves around a group of people who auditioned to be taken to a remote place and given limited resources for survival. Dispensable casts as determined by the home viewers will be voted out by other members.

The premiere episode did not perform well in ratings with only 1.99 million viewers or 0.7 percent of the ratings share. This week's episode did fairly better with 46 percent of viewership increase at 2.48 million. However, 'Utopia' still under-performs in comparison to other reality shows like 'Big Brother', NBC's 'The Biggest Loser', and CW's 'Masters of Illusion'.

"Things are getting steamier-sort of-on Utopia. While a few people have probably been watching the Fox reality experiment in order to see if a group of people can create the perfect society out of a farm and $5,000, most of us are just waiting for the inevitable hook-ups," E! News reported.

Despite that, FOX Television co-CEO Dana Walden said that the executives are "pretty happy and relaxed to embrace the risk." 'Utopia' is planned to run for 52 straight weeks.
