She wants this perfect college experience, but she keeps waiting for Bonnie to show up and Tyler to show up. They have communication with her through Jeremy, who is writing emails under the guise of his ghostly ex. They have no idea Bonnie is dead."

Executive producer Caroline Dries told Wetpaint that just because Bonnie is dead does not mean she is gone. Dries said that this season would explore the "other side" of Mystic Falls. She said, "[Bonnie] is still very much part of the show, and I think this is like a really cool psychological chapter for her. And she kind of accepts the fact that she's dead, and that's just her reality. So it's not an easy thing for her to swallow."
