"The Voice" Season 4 Heats Up as Judges Try To Find The Next "Voice" in 2013: Episode Recap Part 1
The Voice was more outrageous and awesome this week than ever before. There was pyro, props, and even bedazzled country cowboy boots. The Voice judge Usher even even got in on the action, wearing a pair of black eyeglasses for two hours. He said it was "to channel his contestant", but really it was "to look really, really cool." Here's how the teams faired:
Team Adam
Judith Hill was incredible, reinterpreting "#ThatPower" by will.i.am and Justin Bieber. "That hair is badass -- I guarantee you, Adam has been on the phone with Cee Lo [Green] this week!" said Shelton. It was the first current song that Hill has covered and it seemed to go over well with the audience and judges.
Sarah Simmons was pegged for Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know." It was a change of pace for her, as the singer is used to powerful ballads. The performance received mixed reviews, with The Voice Judge Usher praising Simmons for her change of pace.
Amber Carrington reluctantly took on "Skyfall" by Adele, but her judge Adam Levine wanted to push her beyond what she was currently doing. The performance seemed to be a success, as both judges and audience received it well.
Team Blake
Holly Tucker chose "Done" by The Band Perry. She went at it with fire and intensity, and Tucker's powerhouse vocals definitely outshone those cowboy boots that were covered in bling (Remember the bedazzled country cowboy boots from earlier? Yeah, they were her) "There were big notes in this song, and you hit them and took them up to another level," said Usher, while Shelton noted that her sass had the song "begging for mercy" by the end of it.
The Swon Brothers, chose "Seven Bridges Road" by The Eagles, and dedicated the performance to those affected by the Oklahoma tornado tragedy. The vibe was fantastic. It harkened the classic sounds of bluegrass and Americana, with a firepit on stage and a starry night sky background. "Those classic Eagles harmonies really suited your voices," said Shakira.
Danielle Bradbery attempted "Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days)" by The Judds at Shelton's request, though she wasn't initially familiar with the track. Yet while swinging on a fully constructed front porch in a pair of red sequined cowboy boots, she sweetly sold the track with the purity of her voice that shines in the country genre. "Regardless of what happens on the show, you are so important because you're a country music artist that's waiting to be born," praised Levine. "It's staggering."
Tune in tomorrow for an update on team Shakira and Team Usher and watch "The Voice" tonight at 9 p.m. on NBC to see who goes home.
