Those hoping for more news on the VW diesel to come to the US and Canada may have to wait for a long time.

A news report Digital Trends revealed that the company is no longer keen on producing VW diesel in the US following the costly TDI settlement. Instead, the company is shifting its strategy on electric cars, such as its MEB modular platform. By its target, about a million electric cars would be traveling the roads by the year 2025.

In related news, VW diesel won't be rolling out to Canada either after the company was caught red-handed installing software to would cheat emission tests for TDI vehicles. There were about 100,000 owners who were affected by the fiasco.

Besides, the company thinks the standards for diesel emissions are going to get harder from hereon which is why they are focusing on electric cars.

Just last month, the news about the $14-billion settlement in connection to VW diesel was approved by a judge which means the buyback is underway. About 500,000 owners or lessees of Volkswagen and Audi TDI may get between $12,500 and $44,000.

In a statement posted in its website, Hinrich J. Woebcken, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, said that the settlement is one of the ways for the company to make things right in the US.

"Volkswagen is committed to ensuring that the program is now carried out as seamlessly as possible for our affected customers and has devoted significant resources and personnel to making their experience a positive one," the statement said.
