'The Walking Dead' Season 4 Spoilers: The Governor is Back But Has He Changed for Good or Bad? Where is Carol? [TRAILER]
Walking Dead spoilers ahead! Read at your own risk.
The Governor is back! Sure it took the better part of five episodes but in the last few seconds of Sunday's installment, the music was eerie, the camera pans slow to the forest surrounding the prison...then boom! Our favorite one-eyed, pistol-slinging villain is back in Season 4.
The last time we saw the Governor [David Morrissey] he went on a murderous rampage killing all but two members of his personal militia. He lost to Rick and the prison gang and disappeared with Martinez and Shumpert.
As for where he's been, Dead showrunner Scott Gimple says we'll find out through a series of flashbacks in future episodes. "He did something very pronounced at the end of the season that defines him a certain way that affected him a great deal," he told Entertainment Weekly.
Could it have been a change for the better? Chances are he still wants revenge against Michonne for killing his daughter Penny.
The new threat to the Rick and the prison group could not have come at a worse time. The new disease has killed a majority of the group [conveniently leaving the core cast members alive]. The perimeter fences have been breached and desperately need to be repaired. It's safe to say the prison is vulnerable to any attack the Governor has in store.
But what about Carol? It seems like more than a coincidence that the second the strong-willed widow is kicked to the curb, the Governor returns. Is she joining his side, seeking vengeance on those she once tried to protect? She wouldn't be able to recognize the Governor even if she saw him.
Maybe the Governor will employ the same tactics he used against Glenn and Maggie and torture Carol to lure Rick and the others out of their prison fortress. He could use her to find out the group's strengths and weaknesses.
Or maybe the he'll have the prison gang's back against the wall and in true television timing Carol shows up to save the day. Either way it seems obvious that the Governor and Carol's storylines are connected. I can't imagine them both being alive by the end of Season 4.
The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sunday nights at 9/8c on AMC.
