'Westworld' Season Final Recap, Spoilers: Dolores Kills Ford, Teddy, Herself To Open Park For Hosts?

Titled "The Bicameral Mind," the 90-minute "Westworld" season 1 finale saw Ford being shot in the head while addressing the DELOS board.

In the episode, the Man in Black finally revealed himself to Dolores as William, who admitted to becoming a mass robot murderer while he was on his quest to find her. The episode featured some flashbacks, where he encountered Dolores in Sweetwater and the young Dolores did not have any idea who he was.

Dolores found the center of the maze underneath a grave marked "Dolores Abernathy," and it served as a test for hosts who were starting to become self-aware. As Dolores discovered it back in the day, that was a signal to Arnold that she was alive and that the park could not open.

However, Arnold had to execute plan B when Ford overrode his partner. Arnold ordered Dolores to kill all the other hosts so the park could open and told her to ask for Teddy's help. Later on, it was revealed that Dolores and Wyatt were one and the same.

A fight between Dolores and MIB ensued, where Dolores ended up being stabbed in her abdomen. As Teddy came to save her, he brought her to the beach where she died with his arms wrapped around him. As it turned out, that moment marked the beginning of Ford's narrative.

In another segment, it dawned on Dolores that the voice she had been hearing in her head was hers. In the moments that followed, viewers witnessed how she killed Arnold in Escalante. When Arnold realized that the park would still open unless real stakes were involved, he pulled a chair out in the middle of Escalante, played Charlie's favorite song, kissed Dolores' hand and asked her to kill him through a head shot. Dolores did. She then shot Teddy and herself afterwards.

As soon as Dolores killed Ford, all the lobotomized hosts emerged out of the woods and started to fire weapons. They all looked pleased to know that they could finally hurt humans.

Elsewhere in the episode, Maeve got so burned in the fire which she started in the penultimate episode. Fortunately because of Sylvester, the explosive vertebra was swapped out with a good one and Hector and Armistice were finally remade. Both of them woke up and joined Maeve and Felix. As Felix brought Bernard back online, Bernard told Maeve that someone had programmed her to escape. However, Maeve told him that her exit was purely of her own freewill.

By the end of the episode, they all escaped, albeit violently. It remained a mystery, however, if it was Ford's design the whole time to have the hosts take over. Before he died, he left a few pieces of dialogue that made that highly possible. In one of the scenes, he told Bernard: "Arnold didn't know how to save you. I do. You needed time. Time to understand your enemy; become stronger." He also told the DELOS board once about his new story, "It begins with the birth of a new people, and the choices they'll have to make and the people they will decide to become."
