Wii U Sales Not Expected to Reach Nintendo's Target Goal by March

When the Wii U was announced by Nintendo in 2011, the gaming system seemed to have endless possibilities; but now after suffering through poor sales numbers since its launch, they are not expected to reach the target goal.

The Wii U was envisioned to show that it would be a gaming system that presented something entertaining for everybody. Its GamePad controller would go along with new styles of play, and change the very details of game design. Third party support would be there in great quantity, assisting the gaming unit with their major franchises now that the new Nintendo console had the capability to output HD graphics.

These were all the visions and promises made by Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata in various press announcements and appearances. Now that the system was out, Nintendo just needed to back up the promises with solid numbers.

According to the Daily Finance, Iwata promised to sell nine million Wii U units, and to obtain in the region of $1 billion in revenue for the economic year ending March 2014. However, the console is not expected to reach anywhere near Nintendo's specified goals. The sole analysis will be how far the estimation to the actual sum was to its estimation when it is finally verified in the business's end of the year study.

According to the Daily Finance, Nintendo's numbers display that merely 160,000 Wii U's were sold in its first fiscal quarter. Nintendo's subsequent periodical analysis equated 300,000 Wii U's wholesaled internationally, with several of those sales coming as a result of a price drop and the announcement of a bundle including the company's HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. In addition, at the same time the Wii U displayed an undesirable 20,000 sales in Europe. As a result, stores returned many Wii U systems were returned to Nintendo.

The Wii U would have to sell in the realm of 5 to 6 million consoles in the next few months, which based upon that current sale rate is highly unlikely.
