Windows 8.1 RTM Review:

The Windows 8.1 RTM release date is today, October 17!

The new software update is now available for download via the Windows Store. The update is free for those with the previous OS.

PREVIEW:

Though Windows 8.1 RTM is packed with new features, it's still far from perfect. The look is the same but small tweaks in the feel make for a significant update. As for improvements 8.1 has a one-search universal command. The tile arrangements are now more customizable also. Now users can pick built-in backgrounds and change the color scheme. The update also now allows you to personalize the desktop wallpaper for the Start Screen.

With a simple swipe the user can return to the home screen.

Windows 8.1 RTM also emphasizes the new SkyDrive feature. The update now allows all of your files and settings to be stored in the cloud-based storage system.

Internet Explorer 11 is also improved with the cloud-sync technology. Instead of being limited to only ten pages at a time, like in 8, Internet Explore how supports unlimited tabs. Tabs can also be synced between multiple Windows 8.1 devices.

Once users download the next Windows Phone update they'll have access to the same features.

Windows 8.1 RTM is certainly not perfect, but a significant improvement up last's year's 8 software and shows promise for Microsoft's future.
