Xbox Project Scorpio News Update: Microsoft Challenges Developers Maximize Console Specs?
The news surrounding the Xbox Project Scorpio touts the console as the most powerful ever. But all that power would be for nothing if developers will not make use of it.
In an interview with Tech Radar, Albert Penello, product management and planning at Microsoft Corp, said what they are doing with the Xbox Project Scorpio is to provide developers with a blank slate with which they can play around with.
Indeed, the success of the console would depend on the participation of developers.
"I think we've said from the beginning that it's really going to be up to the game developers," he said. "Game developers will choose to take that 6 TFLOPS and do what they think is best for their visions for the game."
The Microsoft exec earlier told Eurogamer that Xbox Project Scorpio will trump the Playstation 4 Pro, touted to be able to play 4K games, considering that Sony's console can only do 4.2 teraflops of computing.
He said that the Xbox Project Scorpio should be good news for developers who are also trying to give their consumers the true gaming experience on native 4K. That luxury of playing with six teraflops-equivalent to a powerful video card from a high-end PC today-is something they had no access before.
And there's another good news for those holding out for the Xbox Project Scorpio, Penello said that the new console is backwards compatible. That means they can play games from their Xbox One and Xbox One S. Of course, there's going to be some performance difference between the consoles.
